Pre Menstrual Syndrome 40 – Pre-menstrual Syndrome and Chinese Herbs for Kidney Deficiency

Premenstrual syndrome effects over 70% to 90% of women before menopause in the US and less for women in Southeast Asia because of their difference in living style and social structure. Premenstrual syndrome is defined as faulty function of the ovaries related to the women’s menstrual cycle, it effects a women’s physical and emotional state, and sometimes interferes with daily activities as a result of hormone fluctuation. The syndrome occurs one to two weeks before menstruation and then declines when the period starts. In this article, we will discuss how Chinese herbs help to treat Kidney deficiency in PMS.

1. Rehmannia glutinosa (shu li huang)

Rehmannia glutinose besides has been used in traditional Chinese medicine in treating kidney disorder, it also helps to restore the balance of yin yang qi of the kidney resulting in lessening the symptoms of water retention, weight gain for women with pre menstrual syndrome. It is said to contains substances which help to improve sexual desire before and after ovulation.

2.Morinda root ( ba ji tian)

Morinda root besides has been used in traditional medicine in treating yang kidney qi deficiency, it also helps to improve immune system before ovulation resulting in lessening the nervous tension for some women with PMS.

3. Cuscuta (tu si zi)

4. Cinnamin bark (rou gui)

I. Definition

According to Chinese herbalist, Chinese angelica root is considered as a queen of all herbs, it has been used in treating women reproductive disorder over thousand of year including pre menstrual cramps, regulating menstrual periods, and lessening menopausal symptoms.

II. How Chinese herbs – Angelica synthesis (Dong quai) effects women with PMS.

1. Resin

Chinese angelica root contains resin which is vital for improving the immune system fighting against the premenstrual symptoms caused by negative allergic reaction, inflammation caused by abnormal cell growth and infection, including breast tenderness.

2. Sedative

It also contains valerianic acid, it helps to calm the nervous system in controlling the body muscles including the uterus muscles resulting in lessening the risk of premenstrual pain and cramps for some women with PMS.

3. Water retention and weight gain

Premenstrual syndrome is defined as faulty function of the ovaries related to the women’s menstrual cycle, it effects a women’s physical and emotional state, and sometimes interferes with daily activities as a result of hormone fluctuation. The syndrome occurs one to two weeks before menstruation and then declines when the period starts. In this article, we will discuss How Chinese herbs white pony ( bai shao) effects women with PMS.

I. Definition

White pony is an ancient Chinese herbal medicine which has been used in traditional Chinese medicine in treating liver infection and respiratory problem. It contains several chemical compounds including paeoniflorin, tanin acid, sistosterol, paeonin,benzoylpaeoniflorin, benzoic acid, ? sitosterol, gallotannin, etc.

II. How Chinese herbs White pony ( bai shao) effects women with PMS.

1. Breast tenderness and water retention

White pony root contains paeoniflorin which is a chemical agent have a diuretic effects for women in PMS resulting in lessening the breast tenderness and water retention. It also helps to improve immune system against tissues swelling, forming of irregular cell growth and reduce inflammation caused by physical impact causing damaged tissues.

2. Premenstrual pain and cramps
