I know its time to get more firewood in. And I know any day now it will be legal to dig ginseng. But I want to know what else? Fall garden? Jelly? Butchering? Soap? Please help. I’m working on a calendar of country living month by month. Your input is appreciated.

Ginseng Feedback: The old Indian down the road from me said I should prepare for a cold winter. He knows it is going to be a hard winter because the white man is gathering lots of firewood.
Ginseng Feedback: Always time to cut firewood. It’s time to start clearing the things from the garden that are done for the season. It’s also time to be making wine from the grapes and fruit that has been picked and juiced. It’s a good time for any maintenance on the chicken coop, outbuildings and fencing before it gets into winter. Changing the oil on mowers and machinery before storing them. I am killing off my extra roosters right now before fall and winter. Through the summer while they are free ranging, they don’t really eat much feed, so all of the extra roosters need to be butchered by winter before I would have to pay to buy feed for them. It’s apple picking time here too. I am already finished with all of my canning for the year. We’re getting ready for bow season on deer which starts in less than a month here.
