Help With RSS And Atom Feeds
What is this "Feed" thing everyone is talking about?
Feeds are a standardized format that allows you to subscribe to a website's content using a tool called a news reader or aggregator. We use something called "XML" (eXtended Markup Language) for creating and reading those Feeds. The two most common types of XML are called RSS (Really Simple Syndication) and Atom Feeds.
Website create Feeds for you to use to either simply keep updated or to include as content on your own website. The orange XML, RSS or Atom buttons help you to locate and subscribe to those Feeds.
Why should I care about Feeds?
- Feeds save you time. Be notified of updates from the many websites you frequent in one easy location.
- Feeds are super convenient. Go straight to the information you want without having to wade through all the interface clutter.
- Feeds are simple. Either use a free Feed service like MSN or Yahoo, or download a Feed news reader.
How do I subscribe to a Feed?
You basically have two choices…
1) The easiest way to read our updated Blog Feed is to sign up (free) to one of the popular web-based services below (MyMSN, MyYahoo!, Google Reader or Bloglines). Click on the revelant button below (sign-up or log in when prompted) and you'll be all set. Once you're signed up and click on one of the buttons below, you'll automatically be able to read our Feed. That's all there is to it!
These free web-based services allow you to subscribe to your favorite Feeds from any website you frequent and read them all in one convenient location. It's usually a quick and easy one- or two-step process. Furthermore, if you change computers or want to check your selected Feeds while on vacation, you can simply log in from anywhere in the world to view them.
By the way, you can subscribe to topic-specific Feeds on other parts of our website using this list of related Ginseng Feeds.
2) Alternatively, if you're more of a do-it-yourselfer type, you can select and download some news reader software to your computer. If you use the Firefox browser, you may wish to install the Wizz RSS News Reader. The latest version of Internet Explorer includes an integrated RSS news reader.
Once your news reader is all set up, enter the URL of our blog's Ginseng Feed ( http://www.ginsengfaq.com/blog/feed/ ) to begin reading the updated content for our site.
Of course, if you need more help you can always ask. I'll do my best to help.
