The history of Chinese herbs used for medicinal purposes dates back to sometime between 800 and 200 BC with the publication of Huang Di Nei Jing - The Yellow Emperor’s Classic of Internal Medicine. At this time, a combination of 28 separate Chinese herbs had been discovered to have great healing power and the combination of many of these are still in existence today.

By around 500 AD, Chinese herbs had been sorted into a classification system that helped guide their use depending on the particular situation. Superior herbs were used to help sustain health - much as we use herbal and vitamin supplements today; middle herbs were used to treat illness; and inferior herbs were used to cure disease. Chinese herbs have been credited with successfully treating everything from acne to infertility.

In today’s world, where traditional medicine tends to focus on the methods employed in Western medicine, much of the uses of Chinese herbs are largely passed over. But for those who look towards non-traditional medicine as a means of recovering health or even as a supplement to traditional medical care, they will find the benefits of Chinese herbs to be rooted in ancient knowledge and a history of success.

Chinese herbs can be found in a variety of places including medical offices following the Eastern practice of medicine, Asian markets, and even online. But the use of Chinese herbs, while most often safe, should be used under the guidance of a medical professional and after extensive research has been performed.

If there is an interest in using Chinese herbs to help supplement health or treat an existing condition, it is best to research those herbs that have shown success in these particular instances. Seek out a medical professional or someone well-versed in the use of Chinese herbs to determine the best way to proceed.

When Chinese herbs are used in conjunction with education, preparedness, and medical supervision, they can be a fantastic tool to achieving overall, natural health.

Losing your hair can be a devastating thing. However, all is not lost. There are many thinning hair remedies that can be successfully utilized. As you’ve done your research you probably ran across Chinese herbs. Some people tout these herbs as the answer to hair loss. I wouldn’t go that far, but there is a growing body of people who have had success with these products.

Chinese herbs try to restore the right pattern of energies in the body. These herbs are believed to greatly stimulate the hair follicles that result in the growth of hair. Another condition is inflammatory response of the body against acidity due to bad diet, pollution and other toxins and also some kind of infections that have negative effects on the growth of hair. Most of the people suffering from alopecia areata have both the above symptoms.

So, it becomes quite necessary to counter these two evils of acidity and inflammation in order to restore the yin energy that helps in cooling the body and stimulating the hair growth. He Shou Wu, polygonum herb also known as Fo-ti, can effectively treat alopecia aerata. In China this herb is being used for centuries as a treatment for early age loss of hair, graying of hair and also as a tonic for longer life. It has been found that this herb can give a new life to the hair follicles and can act as a great tonic for body & brain together. But it is advisable to wait for 3-6 months before its effects start showing for itself.

According to some research conducted in China, the two herbs, eclipta & lingustrum, can counter the effects of alopecia aearata by restoring the yin energy of the kidney and liver.

Another herb that works very well if utilized together with the above listed herbs is Chinese wolfberries. It stimulates the circulation of blood into the hair follicles and thus helps in hair growth and is also used as a tonic for the whole body.

There are other herbs too that can be consumed in combination to inhibit the causes of alopecia that are acidity & inflammation. The herbs are honeysuckle, mint and dandelion. There are other supplements too that can prove beneficial for hair growth if consumed with the Chinese herbs, like nettle tea, black sesame seeds, vitamin C, black beans and flaxseed oil, which act against the toxicity and inflammation.

Many people rely on Chinese herbs when dealing with the problem of hair loss, as it is a completely natural way treating hair loss. However, like anything else, chinese herbs will not work for everyone so a little experimentation is required. Additionally, products like Rogaine, Hair Genesis and Provillus have some good research to support their use. However, there are more things you should know before you try these products as well. To find out more simply download the free report below.

Ginseng tea has been used for centuries as a natural tonic and remedy for a selection of illnesses. The ginseng plant is botanically called Panax, which means,’all heal’ in Greek. In addition, just as its name shows, this tea is very effective at improving health. The tea comes from the fleshy root of the plant. It has natural elements called Ginsenosides, which is where the healing abilities are claimed to come from.

There is a range of differing types of ginseng tea, all from numerous forms of the plan found around the planet. In India, the tea is called Ashwagandha. Asian teas are a selection of the hottest forms, though there are Brazilian, Yankee, and Siberian forms also. Each is subtly different and tea backers say they can taste the numerous flavor differences based on the area the plant was grown in.

Healing Benefits

However, what are the healing benefits of this form of tea? It has long been used to treat just about any type of ailment, but there are some areas that are seen as more promising. Science still has to prove these health benefits as yet, but Ginseng has been used for 5000 years to help cure a few of these conditions.

Ginseng is seen as a perfect way to lose pounds. It helps to increase metabolism in the body. It also improves digestion. It is in a position to restore and maintain the immune system and is asserted to help fight infirmities like arthritis, asthma, diabetes, cancer, stomach ulcers and gut rot. It’s also able to improve blood circulation and reduce both physical and psychological stress. Some even say that it is may be employed as an aphrodisiac.

With all of these marvelous wonders, there’s no doubt that ginseng tea has become an important tool in numerous herbal cures. The good news is that it is also quite tasty and reasonable to purchase. Just about every aspect of the plant can be employed to help in improving health, though the tea seems to be more constructive when it is made from the base of the plant.

Don’t be useless and tell me you don’t know. I couldn’t care less whether you know or not. I don’t understand why kids go on here and post unhelpful responses to questions for the two points. If you know something say it.
INTERACTION BETWEEN HERBS< FOOD AND MEDICINE

Below given are the known interaction between herbs, foods, and prescription. One should take care while using them blind faith, yet advised to consult your herb dealer, medicine store and doctor.

Hawthorn, touted as effective in reducing angina attacks by lowering blood pressure and cholesterol levels, should never be taken with Lanoxin (digoxin), the medication prescribed for most for heart ailments. The mix can lower your heart rate too much, causing blood to pool, bringing on possible heart failure.

Ginseng, according to research, can increase blood pressure, making it dangerous for those trying to keep their blood pressure under control. Ginseng, garlic or supplements containing ginger, when taken with the blood-thinning drug, Coumadin, can cause bleeding episodes. Coumadin is a very powerful drug that leaves little room for error, and patients taking it should never take any medication or otherwise before consulting a qualified health professional. In rare cases, ginseng may overstimulate resulting in insomnia. Consuming caffeine with ginseng increases the risk of overstimulation and gastrointestinal upset. Long tern use of ginseng may cause menstrual abnormalities and breast tenderness in some women. Ginseng is not recommended for pregnant or lactating women.

Garlic capsules combined with diabetes medication can cause a dangerous decrease in blood sugars. Some people who are sensitive to garlic may experience heartburn and flatulence. Garlic has anti-clotting properties. You should check with your doctor if you are taking anticoagulant drugs.

Goldenseal is used for coughs, stomach upsets, menstrual problems and even arthritis. However, the plant’s active ingredient will raise blood pressure, complicating treatment for those taking antihypertensive medications, especially beta-blockers. For patients taking medication to control diabetes or kidney disease, this herb can cause dangerous electrolyte imbalance. High amount of consumption can lead to gastrointestinal distress and possible nervous system effects. Not recommended for pregnant or lactating women.

Feverfew, believed to be the natural remedy for migraine headaches, should never be taken with Imitrex or other migraine medications. It can result in the patient’s heart rate and blood pressure to rise dangerous levels.

Guarana, an alternative remedy being used as a stimulant and diet aid, contains 3 percent to 5 percent more caffeine than a cup of coffee. So, if you are taking any medication that advises you against taking any drink with caffeine, you should avoid taking this stimulant. It may cause insomnia, trembling, anxiety, palpitations, urinary frequency, and hyperactivity. Avoid during pregnancy and lactation period. Long term use of Guarana may lead to decreased fertility, cardiovascular disease, and several forms of cancer.

Kava, a herb that has antianxiety, pain relieving, muscle relaxing and anticonvulsant effects, should not be taken together with substances that also act on the central nervous system, such as alcohol, barbiturates, anti depressants, and antipsychotic drugs.

St. John’s Wort is a popular herb used for the treatment of mild depression.

The active ingredient of St. John’s Wort is hypericin. Hypericin is believed to exert a similar influence on the brain as the monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors such as the one in major antidepressants. Mixing MAO inhibitors with foods high in tyramine, an amino acid, produces one of the most dramatic and dangerous food-drug interactions. Symptoms, which can occur within minutes of ingesting such foods while taking an MAO inhibitor, include rapid rise in blood pressure, a severe headache, and perhaps collapse and even death. Foods high in tyramine include aged cheese, chicken liver, Chianti (and certain other red wines), yeast extracts, bologna (and other processed meats), dried or pickled fish, legumes, soy sauce, ale, and beer.

Some patients report that Saint Johns Wort caused excessive stimulation and sometimes dizziness, agitation and confusion when taken with other antidepressants or over-the-counter medications like Maximum Strength Dexatrim and Acutrim. It also caused their blood pressure to shoot up.

White Willow, an herb traditionally used for fever, headache, pain, and rheumatic complaints may lead to gastrointestinal irritation, if used for a long time. It exhibits similar reactions as aspirin (aspirin is derived from white willow). Long term use may lead to stomach ulcers.

Thanks to Dr. Ripudaman Singh for contributing this article to our Ginseng blog:

Fibromyalgia is often hard to diagnose, and you may find that some doctors will not give that diagnosis at all. The symptoms and problems with this condition are very hard to manage, but there are some things that can help. What works will depend on age and condition, as well as how much work you put into it. There are some lifestyle changes that can help, and there might also be some Fibromyalgia Chinese herbs that can help some with the condition feel better and find more rest.

Medical doctors have very few options when trying to treat Fibromyalgia. This is because it is often skipped over, or the complaints of the patients are not taken seriously. There is little that can be done in the way of medications, though some like to prescribe sleeping pills, pain pills, anti-depressants, or arthritic medications. These can work with varying degrees of success for some patients, but not everyone will find relief. This is when it’s useful to turn to other sources for help, and Chinese herbs may be just what you have been looking for.

Chinese medicine usually first concentrates on helping the overall well-being of a patient. It is believed that by helping the body to boost the immune system, the body can then do some self-healing.

Most medical doctors try to heal just one thing at a time, and it often works well, but in the case of Fibromyalgia, it might help to first concentrate on any auto-immune deficiencies that might be present. They would then treat the various systems of the body that are problematic for people with this condition. This might include the lungs, liver, and muscular system, just to name a few.

Because there are so many different variables when it comes to treating a patient with Fibromyalgia, there really is no list of Chinese herbs that will work for everyone. A practitioner must evaluate the history of the patient, and will need to know much more than what their symptoms are and how long they have had them. They will want to have a life-long medical history of not only the physical body, but the emotional and spiritual part as well. Only when these have been recorded can a true treatment with these herbs begin, and it is often used in conjunction with acupuncture treatments.

It is always a good idea to see someone who practices Chinese medicine before taking any type of herb on your own. You want to be under the care of your medical doctor as well. Some Fibromyalgia Chinese herbs can interact with prescription medications, and the side effects of this could be dangerous. Always let your medical doctor know what you are doing and whom you are seeing for treatment. Though Fibromyalgia Chinese herbs can be an effective alternative form of medicine, they are also very powerful, and it is always a good idea to have someone watching over your treatments from both ends of the spectrum.

Thanks to Jane Thompson for contributing this article to our Ginseng blog:
